Activities

We have undertaken lots of activities, projects and exhibits through the years. These events have made us what we are today.

1996
  • Created stamp clubs in schools. Member clubs are called associate Stamp Clubs (ASCs).
  • Appointed Mr. David Taylor as our official representative to the U.K. who keeps us abreast on that country's stamp issues.
  • Concerned with the welfare of the youth, we supported the cause of the Save the Filipino Youth Movement (SFYM).
  • Joined PHILPOSTPEX '96 organized by Philpost 7 and won top awards.
  • Presented the "Rizal Martyrdom Centennial Stamp Exhibition" on December 18, 1996 to January 3, 1997 at the Cebu City Museum.
  • Joined the Cebu City Government along with NGO's and the private sector in paying tribute to the National Hero, Jose Rizal in a ceremony held at the Cebu City Hall on December 30, 1996.

1997
  • Supported our Associate Stamp Club, the University of San Carlos Girls High School Philatelic Society present an exhibit at the music hall of the University of San Carlos Girls High on February 26, 1997.
  • CSCI's Richard Allan Uy and Suzette Toong were invited to judge the stamp exhibit entries of the members of the Bohol Philatelic Society for their Bohol Philatelic Exhibition (BOPEX '97) on March 1, 1997 in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.
  • Presented "The 1997 Philippine Centennial StampShow" on June 12-19,1997 at the Ayala Center Cebu's exhibit area. Sponsors include the Cebu City Cultural and Historical Affairs Commission, National Centennial Commission, Save the Filipino Youth Movement, Ayala Center Cebu, Philpost, Philippine Information Agency, and Tang.
  • Came out with the maiden issue of the CSCI STAMP JOURNAL, the stamp info-magazine of the club.
  • Accompanied Philpost 7 in giving lectures on philately in schools.
  • Sent a stamp essay on the Battle of Tres de Abril to the Stamp Advisory Committee for a stamp to coincide with the Centennial celebration of Philippine Independence. Jose "Kimsoy" Yap Jr. was commissioned by CHAC and CSCI to do the design.
  • Joined and was a major sponsor for PHILPOSTPEX '97 and again won top awards in the different categories.
  • Came up with additional sponsors such as M. Carangue Enterprises, Coca-cola, Tang and Mister Donut to be part of PHILPOSTPEX '97.
  • Exhibited stamps on Cebuano arts, culture, history and personalities for PAGHIMUGSO, a Cebuano showcase hosted by CHAC, Historical Association of Cebu, in cooperation with Ayala Center Cebu, Cebu Stamp Club, Inc., Cebuano Studies Center, Camera Club BPI Group, and United Architects of the Philippines held on December 1 - 13, 1997 at the Ayala Center Cebu.
  • Get Together Party of CSCI Stampers at CSCI Board Member and Danao City Vice Mayor Ramon Durano IV's family beach in Danao City.

1998
  • Held the first Grand Stamp Auction at the University of Cebu, AVR-5 on February 1, 1998.
  • Designated by the Cebu City Government to sit as a member of the Executive Committee for Centennial Activities in the City of Cebu.
  • Tasked by CSCI founder Richard Allan Uy (who was designated as Project Coordinator) to help and coordinate in the launching of the JOSE P. RIZAL TRAVELING MUSEUM of the University of Southern Philippines, CHAC, and Negros Navigation Co., Inc. wherein National Centennial Chair Salvador Laurel and Philippine Centennial Movement Chairperson Gloria Angara were present.
  • Helped plan the activities for the celebration of the Centennial of the Battle of Tres de Abril on April 3, 1998.
  • Activated the Bantay Bandera Teams, tasked to monitor the display of the Philippine Flags in government institutions, private firms, schools, and residences.
  • CSCI Stampers took their oath of membership before Chairman Salvador Laurel and Chairperson Gloria Angara as members of the Philippine Centennial Movement. CSCI facilitated CSCI Stampers for membership to the Philippine Centennial Movement (PCM).
  • Coordinated with Richard Allan Uy's one-man philatelic exhibit titled "KAGAWASAN: Philippine Independence Through Stamps" at the Sala Foundation Center.
  • Included as one of the acknowledged cooperators of the Salvador and Pilar Sala Foundation's Cebu Youth Symphony Orchestra Concert titled "Bayan Ko! Sa Pagsikat Ng Araw" held at the Cebu Waterfront Lahug Hotel on June 11-12, 1998.
  • Presented the "KAGAWASAN! CENTENNIAL STAMP EXHIBITION" at SM City Cebu on June 11-18, 1998. The biggest of its kind in Cebu, KAGAWASAN! was made possible with the support of the Philippine Centennial Commission, Philippine Centennial Movement, CHAC, USP, SM City Cebu, Negros Navigation, in cooperation with Philpost, Rhine Marketing Corporation, Tools and Logic Systems Inc., Sun-Star Daily, Jollibee, Barrio Fiesta Restaurant, Mister Donut, M. Carangue Enterprises, Rebisco, The Freeman Newspaper, Justino Corporation, JOJ Ocleasa Advertisers Inc.
  • The opening program of KAGAWASAN! which included cultural presentations was televised nationwide through the facilities of ABS-CBN, GMA-7, ABC 21, and RPN 9.
  • Sun-Star Daily came out with a full page invitation on June 11 inviting readers to see the KAGAWASAN! Exhibit.
  • The Freeman Newspaper featured a full page feature of the activities seen in the KAGAWASAN!
  • The design sent by CSCI for the Battle of Tres de Abril was made into a stamp to comprise the set of the series 6 of the Centenary of Philippine Independence Souvenir Sheet.
  • Cebu StampShow '98 was held to coincide with KAGAWASAN! wherein members competed among themselves in the National, Thematic, Foreign and Topical categories.
  • Helped the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Museum come out with the JOSE P. RIZAL MEMORABILIA POSTCARDS Collectors Item consisting of 50 sets of the reproduction of the 1906 Rizal Post Cards. One set comprises 14 different designs which came from the collection of Rizal's Mi Ultimo Adios.
  • The CSCI CENTENNIAL STAMP AUCTION was held at the USP Conference Room with 200 lots.
  • Participated in the Centennial Parade organized by the Provincial and City Governments of Cebu.
  • Started the reformat of the CSCI Activity Meeting every 2nd Sunday of the Month which will include an auction portion wherein 40 lots were on bid.
  • Coordinated with the Philippine Postal Corporation's KALAYAAN exhibit at the Cebu Normal University (Cebu State College).
  • Coordinated with Philpost in another exhibit held at the Mactan International Airport Authority arrival area.
  • Sent Centennial Commemorative Programs and Activities of Cebu Stamp Club, Inc. to the Philippine Centennial Commission/Philippine Centennial Movement to be included in the time capsule.
  • Coordinated with the United Nations Information Centre in presenting the UN STAMP Exhibit as part of the presentation of the United Nations Week celebrations organized by the Juan Sala's Cebu Futuristics Society held at the Ayala Center Cebu from October 17 - 23, 1998.
  • Teamed up with Negros Navigation and the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental for the "Unveiling of the Negros Uprising Commemorative Stamp" held on November 5, 1998 at the Capitol Lagoon, Bacolod City.
  • Supported Richard Allan Uy as chairman of the board of judges for the Regional Judging of the first SELYOLYMPICS held on October 22, 1998 at the Ayala Center Cebu. Rich Uy was appointed by Ms. Fabiolita Ferraris to act on her behalf.
  • Presented "A Philatelic Tribute to Andres Bonifacio" at the Cebu City Museum held on November 26 - December 4, 1998 in cooperation with the Cebu City Cultural and Historical Affairs Commission.
  • Joined PHILPOSTPEX '98 held at SM City Cebu on November 5 - 12, 1998.
  • Went on a tree planting trip to one of the mountain barangays in the City of Cebu.

1999
  • Presented the mega exhibit "Las Islas Filipinas" at the Ayala Center Cebu, one of the premiere malls in the city on January 30-February 10, 1999.
  • Came out with sponsors that included the Cebu Association of Museums Inc., Philippine Centennial Movement, Cultural and Historical Affairs Commission, University of Southern Philippines Foundation, and Negros Navigation in association with Patricia Perez, John Ablaza, Fe Madrid, Remy Java, Charles Muertegui, Cebu Jaycees Inc., Mandaue Jaycees Inc., Cebuano Studies Center, Neo-Tribe, Cebu Tattoo Museum of Arts and with the cooperation of USJR Jaguar Junior Jaycees, Philippine Information Agency, and Postal Bank.
  • This mega event is CSCI's first historical-cultural-philatelic exhibit, the only one of its kind in the country that features booths of different eras in our country's history.
  • "Las Islas Filipinas" was brought to another mall, SM City Cebu on July 31 to August 15, 1999.

2000
  • "Las Islas Filipinas" was on a tour at selected schools and municipalities in the province of Cebu from February to August 2000.
  • Gave lectures on philately to different schools in the city.

2001 - 2004
  • Joined PHILPOSTPEX and won top awards.
  • Gave lectures in different schools in the city.

2005
  • Presented the papal exhibit, "A Tribute to John Paul II: A Historical Journey Through Stamps" to commemorate the Kadaugan sa Mactan Celebration of the City Government of Lapulapu on April 22 to 27 at the Mactan Shrine.
  • After the Lapulapu City presentation, said exhibit was displayed at the lobby of the Talisay City Post Office for two weeks.
  • Launched the mega exhibit "Pope John Paul II.. A Tribute Through Stamps" at the Paseo Marina, Ayala Center Cebu on August 28 to September 8, 2005.
  • Launched the official website www.cebustampclub.com (we have closed this site a year after)
  • Came out with a new site www.friendster.com/cebustampclub.
  • The first issue of the e-Stamp Journal was released.
  • The first issue of the CSCI Newsletter was published.
  • From September to December 2005, said exhibit was brought to schools.
  • Created school stamp clubs.
  • The new membership I.D. card was distributed. 

2006
  • McDonalds Jones branch became the meeting venue of the club held every second Sunday of the month.
  • The conceptualization and planning for a Rizal exhibit began but the date of the exhibit intended for December was postponed because of the Asean Summit that was scheduled to be held in Cebu on that month.
  • Edmund Gruenbaum was appointed as the official representative of the club for Europe and Germany.
  • Lots of kiloware were donated to the club and were distributed to the attending members courtesy of Edmund Gruenbaum.

2007
  • Cebu Stamp Club's "Philippine Heroes on Stamps" exhibit opened at the Activity Center of Elizabeth Mall on August 23 - 26, 2007. This is a joint undertaking of CSCI and the Cebu City Cultural and Historical Affairs Commission (CHAC).
  • Planning for the Rizal exhibit resumed.
  • Celebrated our tenth anniversary.
  • Our new website http://cebustampclub.tripod.com was finally out.
  • A competitive exhibit among members will also be featured in the Rizal exhibit.
  • Richard Allan Uy represented Cebu Stamp Club, Inc as the Chairman of the Board of Judges for the 2007 Pasko sa Sugbo Competition (Establishments Category) initiated by the City Government of Cebu.
  • Our stamp meetup was officially moved on the third Sunday of every month.
  • The CSCI Newsletter is now in full color and given online to CSCI members and patrons of philately.

2008
  • First Quarter Stamp Auction was held on March 30, 2008 at the Function Room A of 888 Asian Gourmet, Andres Abellana St., Cebu City
  • The Board of Trustees officially approved the joining of the club to the Philippine Philatelic Federation.
  • Second Quarter Stamp Auction on June 15, 2008.
  • Planned Rizaliana exhibit this year in one of Cebu’s malls.
  • “Philippines, The Land of Heroes:  A Retrospect Through Stamps” school tour in Dumaguete City in August.
  • 3rd Quarter Stamp Auction in September.
  • Planned exhibit in Camiguin in October.
  • Cebu StampShow 2008 in November. A competition among CSCI members in different categories and levels.
  • Launching of two new websites.
  • “Las Islas  Filipinas 2008 Mall Tour” in November.
  • 4th Quarter Stamp Auction in December.
  • Cebu Stamp Club Christmas Party ‘08
